Rayman Legends coming to Switch in September
Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition is bringing its Mario-tripping-on-acid-in-the-jungle world to Nintendo Switch on September 12! While its initial release was way back in the halcyon days of 2013, its tried-and-true platformer gameplay and vibrant jungle world received a Metacritic score of ~90 on more recent platforms such as XBOX One, PC, and PS4.
Rayman will be returning with its familiar four-player cooperative multiplayer experience in both the standard campaign and Kung Foot mode. For those of you who missed it on XBOX 360 and PS3, Kung Foot mode is a 2D platformer game of soccer where players attempt to use their attacks on a slow-falling soccer ball in order to knock it into the opponent’s goal. Ubisoft promised an updated version of this mode, but weren’t specific about how it has changed. Players can also use the undocked Nintendo Switch touch screen to manipulate platforms, take out enemies, cut ropes, and otherwise interact with the environment.
The video trailer also promises a mobile multiplayer experience that looks like a blast. While I would probably have anxiety attacks about taking a Switch to the beach, I love the idea of using an undocked Switch to play anywhere with a buddy.
Michel Ancel, lead designer on Rayman Legends, said, “The adaptation of Rayman Legends on Nintendo Switch is like a love story between Nintendo and Rayman. Because of course the colorful universe and the Rayman spirit go perfectly with the Nintendo spirit.” That’s more than just talk; the game designers have even given a set of unlockable Mario and Luigi costumes to Rayman and his player two buddy Globox.
