Sonic the Hedgehog movie from Paramount is in the works

Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to create a feature-length film set in the universe of Sega’s popular blue mascot Sonic the Hedgehog, and it would seem the studio has wasted no time in moving forward on getting such a film greenlit.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be developed by Original Film and will include Deadpool director Tim Miller as an executive producer. Meanwhile the film will be directed by Miller’s friend and longtime collaborator Jeff Fowler.

The movie adaptation will reportedly not be a straight up animated or CG film, and will instead blend live-action scenes with CGI animation (we’re assuming the latter will be mainly used to bring the iconic blue speedster onto the silver screen). The Sonic the Hedgehog movie doesn’t yet have a release date or any attached actors, but considering that the film already has a director, an executive producer, and an attached development studio, both should be forthcoming shortly.
